Men’s Health Week

13-19 June 2022

One in five men will die before they reach retirement age, often from preventable causes. Men’s Health Week 2022 is encouraging people to do something about that, with the theme Time for your MOT.

Led by the Men’s Health Forum, the purpose of the annual Men’s Health week is to raise awareness of preventable health issues and encourage men of all ages to seek professional advice for health-related problems.

The last two years have brought disruption and change to all of our lives. Now, more than ever, people are recognising the importance of being mentally and physically well. This Men’s Health Week, why not take some tangible action to support your employees to live their healthiest lives?

What have we missed?

We all know the pressures that primary care services have been under during the pandemic. However, did you know that male GP visits fell more than female GP visits? Prostate cancer diagnoses were down 29% from 2019 to 2020. This isn’t because prostate cancer rates are decreasing, but rather that men simply aren’t visiting their GP as much.

Your employees might be facing barriers to accessing their NHS Health Check, and may even be reluctant to make time in their busy lives and work schedules for appointments. Research shows that men are more likely than women to put off visiting their GP. Why not bring the health checks to them, with our Workplace Health Checks? All we need is a private space, and we’ll bring the rest.

What’s included in a Workplace Health Check?

We offer two types of Workplace Health Check: Healthy Heart Checks and Essential Health Checks. Both checks include a private consultation for each member of staff with one of our Health Coaches, a full results breakdown sent directly to individual participants by email, and bespoke lifestyle recommendations.

Healthy Heart Checks (15 minutes)

  • Total cholesterol
  • Blood pressure
  • Resting heart rate
  • Blood oxygen
  • Risk of type 2 diabetes

Essential Health Checks (20 minutes)

  • Total cholesterol
  • Blood pressure
  • Resting heart rate
  • Blood oxygen
  • Blood glucose
  • BMI
  • Waist to hip ratio

Throughout the confidential assessment, our Health Coach will discuss results with the participant in detail, empowering them to take positive steps to benefit their health and wellbeing. Each participant will receive an information pack highlighting further prevention advice and signposting for support, and be fully supported to understand their results.

Why support health at work?

On average, men working full-time will spend nearly 39 hours a week at work: that’s a big opportunity to make an impact. Research suggests that employers who invest in their employees’ health and wellbeing see better retention rates and higher productivity.

If you want the best out of your staff, it’s a no-brainer. Bring the MOT to them, allowing them to take control of their wellbeing and feel truly valued at work.
